Sri Lanka not in a debt trap – President Gotabaya

H.E. President Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa has told United States secretary of state Mr. Mike Pompeo that after the end of the war China helped in the development of infrastructure, and that it did not result in Sri lanka falling into a debt trap.

The President Gotabaya expressed these views during the bilateral discussions held with the latter today morning.

During the cordial discussion between the two parties, views on a number of areas of bilateral and regional importance were exchanged, according to President’s Media Division(PMD).

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told the President Gotabaya that the United States is ready to continuously engage with Sri lanka in its striving to achieve economic development goals.

He said that the United States expects to further develop already existing strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
