SJB to take action against MPs who supported 20A

A group of parliamentarians of Samagi Jana Balawegaya have called for the suspension of membership of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and All Ceylon Makkal Congress members who voted in favour of the 20A to the Constitution.

In a letter directed to Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s General Secretary Minister of Parliament Mr. Ranjith Madduma Bandara today, 22 party members expressed dissent over the conduct of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and All Ceylon Makkal Congress members who supported the constitutional 20th amendment during the vote in Parliament yesterday.

It also includes taking action against the Miniter of Parliament’s who voted in favor of passing the clause on Dual Citizenship mentioned in the 20A.

Opposition Leader, Leader of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Mr. Sajith Premadasa said the Speaker of Parliament will be informed the remove the Minister of parliament’s in question from the seats allocated for the Samagi Jana Balavegaya and necessary replacements would be appointed.

Meanwhile, they conveyed their appreciation to the leaders of the two affiliated parties, Minister of Parliament Rishad Bathiudeen and Minister of Parliament Rauff Hakeem, for standing by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s unanimous decision to vote against the 20th Amendment.

Further, they recalled the decision taken at the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s recent parliamentary group’s meeting to oust the members who oppose the party’s decision to vote against the draft bill, regardless of their position.

They also requested the party’s General Secretary to make an apt decision on these Ministers of Parliament, if the All Ceylon Makkal Congress and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leaders do not take actions to strip them of their membership.
