Diana Gamage defends decision to support 20th Amendment

Minister of Parliament Diana Gamage Deputy Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya stated that she voted in favor of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution with the country in mind. Speaking in Parliament on today Diana Gamage defended her decision to vote in favor of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution on yesterday.

She stated the above at a media briefing which was held after the bill was passed by a two thirds majority.

Minister of Parliament Diana Gamage, representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and all members of the Sri lanka Muslim Congress except its Leader, Minister of Parliament Rauff Hakeem voted in favour of the proposed bill.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress members who voted in favour included Naseer Ahamed, H.M.M. Harees, Faizal Cassim and M. S. Thowfeek.

In addition, MP Ishak Rahuman of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress led by Minister of Parliament Rishad Bathiudeen, MP A. Aravindh Kumar of the Tamil Progressive Alliance led by MP Mano Ganesan and Ali Sabri Raheem of the Muslim National Alliance voted in favour of the bill.

Meanwhile, the members of the Opposition expressed their views on the 20th Amendment to the Constitution after yesterday’s parliamentary session.
