Woman has been arrested for insulting Cardinal

The 43 year old woman who was arrested from Battaramulla, for uploading a video to social media with hatred content mentioning Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, remanded until 02 November.

The suspect has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Battaramulla area, Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inpector General of Police Ajith Rohana said.

According to the Deputy Inpector General of Police, the woman had released a video on social media mentioning Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, and inciting religious hatred and animosity, especially between Buddhists and Catholic, Christian devotees.

The woman is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, said the Police.
